A bold statement, you may say.
I wouldn`t disagree.
First thing first; for definition of SMART Goals, see my previous blog post The SMART Goals Definition (And Why It Can Boost Your Success) and come back to this post.
Where were we?
Ah, SMART Goals template, right…
When it comes to becoming a more productive and efficient person, either at work or in your private life, it is important to remember that you should not reinvent the wheel.
One of the greatest discoveries in the history of mankind when it comes to increased production and efficiency, was the invention of mass production. Wikipedia says: “Mass production is the production of large amounts of standardized products, including and especially on assembly lines.”
What does this mean? It means that by reusing existing best proven templates, will result in standardized products. Further the use of standardized products, will the increase the efficiency when it comes to mass production.
My experience when I was working as a consultant, is that reusing a good template in analyzing and planning phase, can save you about more than 50-70 % of the time. Sometimes even more, depending on the complexity of the template.
Not only is it great to save time, but it is also very relieving and efficient NOT to waste your time by redoing something you have done before, from scratch.
In order for you to change your life and optimize it, goal setting plays an important role. How can you ever hit the bull’s eye if you don`t know where to aim?
This is YOUR life we are talking about. You should be willing to use whatever tool necessary in order to increase the chance of you reaching your goal.
A SMART Goals template will do the following:
– Tell you what to write in order to fulfill the SMART goal process
– Tell you what to think about in order to set the most correct goals for yourself
– Reuse an already proven template (which has worked for others)
– Save you time
There is only 24 hours in a day, and we have to be very selective on how we are using our time. The time will fly anyhow, so the only question at the end of the day is:
What did you spend your last 24 hours doing?
A smart person learns from his own mistakes. A very smart person learns from other people`s mistakes.
My advice is: use other people`s already proven best practices and templates. It will save you a lot of time and frustration, and last but not least, increase your chance of success.
